[Review] - Grief Is A False God

Grief Is A False God
Gemma Amor

Published by Cemetery Gates

Never has a book overwhelmed me with sadness and despair until now.

This book wrecked me, this book pissed me off. This book makes the reader feel emotions of anger, depression, sadness and, yes, grief. As these emotions make their appearances in the story, you feel them.

It is presented in an almost Children's book format. Glossy cover with big pages and font. The illustrations by Anibal Santos are gorgeously haunting.

A man loses his wife and walks deep into the world of grief. In this place, on this piece of land, that sadness manifests itself into a vampiric like creature. This force, this false God, rises from our sadness. It is given power by our depression. It comes quietly in the night to drain what is left of our strength, feeds off our will to go on. We can try our best to mash down that sadness, to put our grief aside. We must go on for our daughter. Our wife is gone, but we must live. We can do it, but there is a pond, and the daughter looks more and more like the wife everyday - and just like that sadness has once again overtaken us.
