[Review] - Son of Hanover Block

Son Of Hanover Block
Gregor Xane

Published by New Dollar Pulp

I am going to go 4.5. I gave Hanover 4, Brides 5. I think I liked Brides a bit more. The narrative here is definitely more. The story evolves from a small corner of a thing into a vaster expanse of the bizarre. But for me personally - Brides is the one that set Gregor's work on its own level for me and for some small reason I want to keep it that way for now.

Gregor explodes the narrative in this one. The universe of Hanover Block is given a wider berth. We get backstory and setup that lifts the veil on things we could barely fathom from the previous two books. The bizarre becomes understandable. The absurd becomes the norm.

There is an infestation. It is of a sexual and possibly alien type nature. Orgasmic but ultimately deadly, it manifests itself differently for its hosts and ONLY the hosts could see the "things" until now.

Hanover Block gets into the men. Brides gets into the women. At the end of Brides, I don't want to give anything away, but this book is titled "Son of" so you can kind of get where it is going. The infestation is propagating.

So that's what we know going into "Son". Infestation, how it manifests for men, for women, and ultimately there is government agency trying to stop it.

Son fills in more of the puzzle. It is a grander and broader level of scheme, character development and crazy. James can see these things. It only takes the removal of a brain tumor/half his brain and absolutely the most absurdly horrific upbringing/home life I have ever read about. So with James's vision and the help of a research psychiatrist (publishing a book of imagined? insane hallucinations) the government has some level of a path to proceed in an attempt to combat this invasion. But...

The infestation is escalating. Son is an evolution, a propagation of the species. It's a new level of creature. A new level of gore and gruesomeness. The infestation is spreading and now it's on the move and we are no longer the top of the food chain. The government is giving chase, could the creatures of Hanover Block have an adversary? Does a natural predator for this infestation exist?
