Book Review: My Life in Horror by Kit Power

If you're a fan of the Ginger Nuts of Horror website (I surely am), then you're probably already a fan of Kit Power.  If you're like me, you're also wondering:  Is "Kit Power" his real name?  It sounds like a Saturday morning cartoon about kitten superheroes, not a guy who had his mind destroyed by Wes Craven's Last House on the Left.  Anyway...

My Life in Horror, as the title suggests, is a collection of essays revealing Power's early obsession with horror (and music).  I absolutely love books like this and I've always lamented that there is a shortage of them in the market.  Here is what you can expect from this one:  Guns n Roses's Appetite for Destruction, John Carpenter's The Thing, Robocop, Iain Bank's The Wasp Factory, and many others.

And here is a little taste of what you can expect from Powers in this book:  mild spoiler ahead...

This dude thinks that not only is Robocop the best action movie ever made, but the best MOVIE ever made.  With evidence!

***END SPOILER***

This is the kind of hard-hitting absolute conviction from Kit that you can expect in this book.  Also, don't be fooled by the fun and sometimes poignant anecdotes about his childhood.  This guy REALLY KNOWS HIS STUFF.  Even if you aren't into that aspect of this collection, there is also expert-level deconstruction of horror films and books included.

In short, this was a very fun book to read and I even got a few book recs from it.  Good job Kit!  I'm looking forward to Volume 2!
