Pride in Horror
2025
Every June, Divination Hollow Reviews celebrate Pride in Horror Month. This is an event that we, as a small, majority queer review team, feel passionate about. We promote diverse voices through the year, but June is when we throw our doors open and invite you all to join us. As always, queer voices and allies are welcome, and we’d love to spotlight your work. Just read the below for what we’re looking for and for the submission guidelines, and send us your work.
If you’d like to check out the past pieces we’ve featured for June, just search ‘Pride’ on the site and have a browse.
Submissions are open from 8th February to 30th April. If you have any questions, please feel free to email the address below and simply note ‘QUESTION’ in the subject line so we can be sure to pick this up.
What We’re Looking For
-Articles
-Reviews (books, films, games, TV…)
-Author Spotlights
-Artist Spotlights
-Listacles
-Personal Essays
-Short Stories/Flash Fiction
-Poems
-Book Extracts
-Interviews
-…and anything else you want to submit!
Please be aware we often get fiction and poetry submissions, so we’re really keen for other forms of content this year, too. Although fiction and poetry is very welcome, we would love this to be an opportunity for folks to boost others as well via reviews, interviews and so on.
We are looking for works that fit into horror and other dark genres, though we are flexible – we include sci-fi, paranormal romance, true crime, and more! We also welcome all LGBTQIA+ history and non-fiction.
We recommend aiming for up to 2,500 words, however we welcome longer submissions but these will be split into parts. We want pieces by and about queer voices, and we welcome reprints! Please note this is voluntary – there is no payment, but again, you’re welcome to submit reprints, extracts, etc.
Formatting Guidelines
Please note, we are not strict with formatting and you won’t be rejected for not adhering strictly to these guidelines. These guidelines are provided as a suggestion as this will make it easier to transfer to the website for publication.
Please submit as a Word or Google doc.
We request you submit with single spacing, with a single line space between paragraphs, rather than double-spaced.
Please include a short bio at the end of your document (rather than separately in the email).
Please ensure any relevant links are included – this can be as an inserted link, or please use italics or bold to confirm where the link needs to be included, and add the URL next to this
Images can either be included in the document or as separate attachments
FAQ
Can I submit …
Yes! As above, don’t hold back – if you’re not sure if something will fit, send it through anyway!
Do I have to self-disclose?
Absolutely not! You do not need to include anything you’re not comfortable making public. If you want to submit under a fake name with a fake bio, you absolutely can. We don’t need any more information than what you’re willing to provide.
Can I submit a piece discussing the portrayal of LGBTQIA+ characters in something by a cis het author?
Yes, absolutely! We’ll accept all review for PIHM, we just ask that the books are either written by queer authors or feature queer characters. If you want to highlight a book by an ally you think handles things particularly well, or want to discuss a portrayal you feel was handled badly, we’d love to hear from you!
