Jason’s Women in Horror Month Recap for 2022
Jason’s WIHM Follow-Up
As promised, here are the scores. Let’s do worst-to-first format. 14 total read!
THE BAD:
14: The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters. Maybe gothic horror just isn't for me.
13: Waking the Moon by Elizabeth Hand. Love the dark academia vibe but was boring.
12: The Glass Hotel by Emily St John Mandel. Didn't like Station Eleven either.
11: Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado (collection). Unmemorable.
10: Graveneye by Sloane Leong (graphic novel). A little predictable.
THE OK:
9: Crave by Tracy Wolff. I've never read the word "swoon" so many times.
8: Bitch Planet by Kelly Sue Deconnick (graphic novel). Fun and original.
7: Her Three Lives by Cate Holahan. Solid thriller.
THE GOOD:
6: Joker/Harley: Criminal Sanity by Kami Garcia (graphic novel). Great police procedural.
5: Maneaters: The Cursed by Chelsea Cain (graphic novel). Great spinoff of a great run.
4: Jar of Hearts by Jennifer Hillier. Hillier is consistent quality.
THE GREAT:
3: Marvel Meow by Nao Fuji. Cutest graphic novel ever.
2: Things We Do in the Dark by Jennifer Hillier. My current favorite from her.
THE BEST!:
1: Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton. Funny and emotional. The zombie apocalypse but told from the point of view of a crow and his best friend, a dog. An absolute must-read!
