Welcome to Pride In Horror 2024

Pride is upon us once again, and we welcome you to our annual Pride in Horror* Month event. This event is so important to us, and we have hosted it every year since DHR launched. Things have changed a lot since those early days, but our commitment to diversity and underrepresented voices remains the same. As a majority queer team, Pride offers us a chance to really fly our flags high and celebrate the diversity out there.

This month, you can expect reviews, poems, short stories and more as we spotlight some of the excellent queer creators working in horror**. We also have a series of interviews where our queer team members got together to interview each other, to help shine a light on the people behind the website, too.

We cannot pass up this opportunity to emphasise our commitment not just to diversity, but all that entails โ€“ Divination Hollow supports trans rights, and we stand firm alongside our trans siblings. We do not tolerate transphobia, homophobia, racism or any other forms of bigotry that are exhibited daily. We work to be anti-racist and actively inclusive in what we do.

We want to once again emphasise our commitment to DHR being a space where people can be themselves and be embraced. We celebrate diversity (we even have cis het men on our team!) and we strive to reflect this not just on DHR but in our day to day lives. If you ever feel like you have something to say about a certain book or author or even about the community as a whole, our doors are always open. Weโ€™re also always looking for new contributors, which you can find out more about here.

We have also (finally!) launched our โ€˜Our Teamโ€™ page, so you can find out more about the folks who are behind Divination Hollow Reviews.

We remain committed to the same goals that saw us set up DHR and steer it in this direction โ€“ unfortunately, any shift in the landscape has been in the wrong direction, though there are writers and other creators working hard to change this, and we want to celebrate them every day and encourage all of you out there to keep going. Whether youโ€™re just getting your work out there or as an established author, if thereโ€™s anything we can do to help you on your journey please reach out!

That said, like many, we have been facing difficulty and uncertainty over the last year. There have been times for many when the general social media landscape โ€“ often toxic, a place where new predators and abusers and general arseholes are unearthed way too often โ€“ has felt overwhelming, and I (Elle) have had to truly consider the future of this website.

The conclusion I came to was I think DHR has been a force for good, and a very worthwhile endeavour.  I would love to see that continue. I am so grateful we have provided a space for our contributors and supporters to have discussions and feel welcome, and I want to keep Divination Hollow going for as long as I possibly can. Unfortunately, thereโ€™s a practical element to that, too. Iโ€™m unable to afford the costs of running the site at this moment in time. So, weโ€™re reaching out to you, the community, and asking, if you possibly can, for a donation to keep Divination Hollow running for the next year. We understand this isnโ€™t something everyone can do, but if you canโ€™t, sharing our GoFundMe page will help a great deal. If you enjoy the content you see over the next month, please consider donating or sharing. We would love to still be here to celebrate Pride next June, as well.

Putting that aside โ€“ we really hope you enjoy the various offerings we have for you this month! Our submission window is now closed for Pride, however if you feel encouraged or inspired or want to share your own thoughts on horror (and other genres etc), we do accept guest submissions year-round. So, feel free to send us anything you like โ€“ if we canโ€™t feature it this month, weโ€™ll do our best to get it up as soon as possible after.

We hope you have a fun, safe, and happy Pride Month. We hope you find room to celebrate queer joy, and where possible, please support your local Pride events, this month and throughout the year. Whatever the future brings, our team will still be around, whether itโ€™s through Divination Hollow or in other forms, and we hope you all continue to be, too. Keep doing what youโ€™re doing โ€“ donโ€™t tolerate bigotry, call out the various phobias where you see them, and donโ€™t support people who do nothing but put hate into the world.

Happy Pride Month!

-Elle & The DHR Team
