Genre: Non-Fiction – Art

This isn’t my first time reading this, but I decided to go through it again and it’s pretty much as good as I remembered. I’d really like to pick up the rest of the series. It’s a really comprehensive look at the dystopian subgenre, at least where it stood in 2014. The book details what makes a dystopia, and the different kinds that can be found across a variety of mediums, including literature, screen, art and music. It’s also just a beautiful book, with the artwork making it an absolute joy to pause and look over. It notes a variety of dystopian focused works, and makes note of where the dystopia is the focus or the backdrop. I definitely think if you’re a fan of dystopia and want to explore the genre more, and aren’t quite sure where to start, or just want something you can easily devour in a short space of time and that looks really good on your shelf or table, this might be worth picking up. As for me, I think I’m going to have to see if I can get hold of any of the other books in the Gothic Dreams series.
