Hunter Shea is an author I very much admire, having read Creature and Ghost Mine, which I really enjoyed. His writing is crisp, and he’s brilliant when it comes to underlying horror, of building tension in his prose before the gore kicks in. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed by Misfits. As the months passed, more excitement built around the novel, and now I know why - Janz has created a wonderfully diverse (yet familiar) world of monsters here. Its post-apocalyptic setting not only screams dark fantasy, it provides a vivid backdrop that (surprisingly) brought to mind The Lord of the Rings.
