Its purple battery throbbed inside its cylinder, and violet shadows oozed into the barrel. She placed her drink on the award shelf near the door that gathered dust – twenty-three figures stood there with her name engraved. She nodded to the guards, throwing a cardigan over her shoulders – not that it mattered what she wore, she knew she’d wake up in something different.

Be brief. That’s one of the first big lessons you need to absorb if you want to become a screenwriter. Any books you read, classes you taken, overpriced workshops from hack gurus you attend, if they don’t mention “the economy of words,” then ask for your money back. Now. Producers, actors, directors, all those folks above our paygrade, they barely read anything. So getting to the point with what they do read is essential.

While it is more in the realm of journalism, given the rise of popularity of cults in film, and as a popular topic in the horror community, we felt this had relevance connecting dark fiction genre and current events. We feel that this shines a spotlight on how people process a lot of difficult topics through the horror genre in books an film. We also felt it pertinent to highlight the fact that the danger of misinformation is real and indoctrination into cults can happen to anyone, and that education and socioeconomic backgrounds are NOT deciding factors; anyone and everyone is vulnerable.
