CALL FOR CONTENT: Divination Hollow Reviews Beloved “Pride In Horror Month” Event is Returning for June 2022
Our Gender Inclusive and Sex Positive Event Celebrating Our LGBTQIA+ Community in Dark Fiction is Coming Back For Yet Another Fabulous Year!!
DHR Pride Month Submission Guidelines
We are once again excited to bring you Pride in Horror Month, for the third year in the row. Every year our month long event brings new friends to Divination Hollow, sharing their unique perspectives on the world of horror. We want this year to be bigger and better than ever, so we kindly invite you to submit your guest posts, full details below.
Here at Divination Hollow, we strive to be inclusive, keeping our doors open to any and all who have something to share. We welcome submissions from anyone LGBTQIA+ as well as allies, and we’ll never ask you to disclose anything about yourself you’re not comfortable sharing. All pieces will be edited sensitively by our head editor Elle, and the only information on the site about yourself will be the information you choose to share.
We kindly ask that you don’t chase for updates until after the closing submission period, and not within a week of you submitting your work. Our site admins will be doing their best to keep up with reading each and every submission they receive, and will personally respond to all.
If you have any questions about submissions, please email them to the email below, but note in the subject line PIHM QUESTION. This enables our site admins to identify and respond to these quickly.
What We’re Looking For:
We’re interested in articles, essays, reviews, interviews, listacles and anything else you can think of, tied into Horror and adjacent genres. If you’re not sure if something fits, feel free to reach out and check. By adjacent genres, we include Dark Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and some Crime/Thriller. But we’re happy to keep our definitions vague, and if you feel strongly a particular book, film or topic deserves to be highlighted, again just ask. As an example, our editor previously wrote about the film Pride, to highlight LGBT+ history and the importance of knowing our history.
It might be you want us to feature a review of a non-fiction LGBTQIA+ book, film or documentary – we definitely welcome it! We’re also happy to cover all ages. From picture books to Adult, we – and I cannot emphasize this enough – are open to it all.
Previously we’ve also included short stories and poetry in our Pride in Horror Month events. And for all forms of content, we are happy to accept previously published works – please provide links to where these may have been published previously, if available!
Please note, we are currently voluntary submissions only. We make no profit off the website; all merch sales and donation costs currently go towards the running of the site itself.
What to Submit & Where to Submit:
Please read the following information carefully.
Please ensure your submission is formatted with no tab indents, and a space between paragraphs (the same way text is formatted on this page). Please put the title at the top, along with any relevant trigger or content warnings, and at the end include your bio along with any social media links you wish to include. We would also like to encourage you to include links to Patreon, Ko-Fi or other donation platforms, or alternatively you can provide a link for a LGBTQIA+ charity of your choice (charities, not hate groups, please. We will not accept any links for charities which deliberately seek to exclude anyone under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella. If you have a problem with this, we suggest this is not the website to submit your content to).
You may include any images you wish with your content but please ensure these are available for use – please do not send original artwork unless you have the artist’s permission. You may attach these separately to the email, or insert them into the document.
Please ensure the document can be opened in Word.
Maximum word count is 3,500 words.
Send submissions to dhrfeatures[@]gmail[.]com with PIHM Submission: TITLE in your subject line. Please note, the editors reading the submissions will be Elle & Ellen (both she/her). You may include anything you like in the body of the email – this information will not be shared outside of the two site admins.
Again, any questions at all, please send to the email address. If we are asked similar questions by multiple people we will add them to this page, so please ensure you check back here prior to submitting.
The submission period will run March 21st – May 20th 2022. Depending on how many submissions are received, we will strive to respond before 1st June, however it may take slightly longer.
We ask that you submit a maximum of three pieces of content in the first instance (please ensure these are in separate emails). If you desperately want to submit any more, please check with us after we have responded to the others.
Thank you, and we look forward to hearing from you!
Elle & Ellen
