This book is both strange and beautiful, the kind that will linger in your mind after you’ve set it down. The kind which you can’t quite make sense of, not completely, but with words so elegantly written you’re absorbed into the story, connecting with characters that aren’t quite human, but embody the emotions and spirit of humanity so well you’re guaranteed to see something of yourself in them.

This is Halloween, and don’t let it pass without picking up Halloween Season, Lucy A. Snyder’s collection of Horror and Dark Fantasy stories. Every story is consistently good. Every tale presented in these pages is, at the worst, good, at their best, absolutely bloody fantastic.

This is a novella about a song, and the truth, and lies and consequences. It’s tense, funny, and moving, with some absolutely fantastic lines that really underscore the overall themes. With this book, Power has unleashed something honestly intelligent and warm and horrific and brutal.

Book Review: Dracula’s Child by J.S. Barnes

Dracula is an absolute classic, a staple of the horror genre, a key Gothic text. Even if you haven’t read the novel, you know the story, you know the characters, you’ve seen it played out so many times and read stories based off it, seen the effects Dracula has had on vampires in the 20th Century. So what more, you might ask, could be added to Dracula and the vampire mythos? How could a sequel be written to one of the foundational horror texts?
