Pure, sweet escapism. Arizona Tape’s Her Rival Dragon Mate is the kind of book you can just sink into. And I loved it so much I immediately purchased the second book in the series, too.

Alisha is determined to climb the career ladder at work, but her plans risk being derailed by the arrival of her one-night-stand, dragon shifter Kendra. The two women are put on a case together, and though Alisha is determined to keep Kendra at a distance, her plans don’t quite work out.

This is a fun, short read, involving rivals-to-lovers and fated mates, as well as a wonderfully crafted shifter world built around the two characters. It very much has first-book-in-series vibes, with other characters introduced and some fun stuff involving a ritual to find a fated mate. I enjoyed seeing the relationship progress between Alisha and Kendra, and absolutely could have read a longer book featuring these two.

There isn’t much actual ‘shifting’ here, but instead the women being a dragon shifter and dragonkin (part shifter) enables the fated mates plot, and we see how fated mates plays out among these shifters, including the markings they get once they find their mates.

Overall, Her Rival Dragon Mate is a really fun book with a cute couple, and what more could you ask for?
