Women in Horror Month: A Review of “Poser” via Nightstream Film Festival

Poser

Via Nightstream Film Fest

Oh, I’m so very glad that I was able to catch a screener of “Poser”. It is an artsy fartsy drama thriller with a great cast, fascinating characters, a wicked soundtrack, and a beautiful aesthetic! Thank you to Nightstream Film Fest and the films creator for allowing me to experience such a poetic piece of filmmaking.

It’s so soft and slow moving with a neon pulse undercurrent, much like a lot of the musical score that accompanies it. The cinematography is absolutely to die for, and I wish I could live in it. I loved the performances from the lead gals Lennon & Bobbi, and I find their relationship dynamic quite interesting. I think it’s horror adjacent, but definitely more psychological drama leaning. It’s not the most unique perspective on the music industry itself being narcissistic, predatory and of course reductive of one another, but I did appreciate those vibes nonetheless. Honestly, this is the most relaxing movie I’ve watched in a while on just about every sensory level and that makes it very satisfying to me, personally. It also reminded me of spending so much time at shows and around musician friends and that creative, passionate atmosphere. You just sort of sink right down into the movie and inside of these grungy romantic places, sounds, and meld with these people and lose yourself for a bit. At least I did, and I loved it!

Watched as part of Nightstream film festival.
