Nia Da Costa is a filmmaker, writer, and director who lives and works in New York City.  Although writing was a passion of hers since childhood, creating short stories and poetry and screenplays, she was inspired to become a filmmaker after seeing 1979’s infamous “Apocalypse Now.”  She began her film career as a TV Production Assistant upon graduating from the NYU Tisch School of the Arts.

Da Costa began her work in short film, but first turned heads in the industry with her expertly crafted Crime Thriller Western “Little Woods,” and won the Nora Ephron Prize when it premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Da Costa is now directing the upcoming “Candyman” film which will be releasing on June 12th 2021*; the film is co-written by Da Costa, Jordan Peele, and Win Rosenfeld.

Da Costa is set to direct the upcoming “Captain Marvel 2” sequel in the MCU film series, releasing July 8th 2022.  This makes her the 4th woman and the 1st black woman to direct an MCU film.

In addition, Da Costa has directed two episodes of the British Crime Drama series “Top Boy.”

(*Due to the ongoing Covid19 pandemic, the films initial release date had been postponed in hopes of having a higher chance for theatrical release instead of On-Demand Streaming)
