Genre: Paranormal Romance

Age: Adult

Format: Paperback

I am so glad I picked up this series! I really adored A Hunger Like No Other, and No Rest for the Wicked didn’t disappoint. The second book in Immortals After Dark, No Rest for the Wicked introduces us to Kaderin, a Valkyrie who has earned the nickname “the Cold Hearted”, and Sebastian Wroth, a vampire turned against his will, who wants nothing more than death until Kaderin arrives, ready to strike him down. Until she realises that the gift she carries, leaving her unable to feel emotions, doesn’t work around the vampire.

Blood red background with a bright yellowish full moon. In the foreground, a darkhaired, shirtless man grips the waist of a semi-dressed woman. Her head is thrown back and he leans in.

Like the first book, I’d urge people to check the content and trigger warnings prior to picking this up. Kaderin and Sebastian are fated mates, and with that comes a bit of a blurred line with consent, though it doesn’t tend to be as ‘bad’ as in A Hunger Like No Other.

Speaking of fated mates, if it is a trope you enjoy, I would recommend this series. There’s a lot of fun travel in it, too, and in No Rest for the Wicked, Kaderin is competing in a global tournament, tracking down relics for a goddess, competing for a prize that will allow Kaderin to literally change history.

What I appreciated was how different this was to A Hunger Like No Other. The characters are very different, and where Lachlain is a powerful alpha male, Sebastian is on the quieter side. Where Emmaline is sheltered and naïve, Kaderin couldn’t be more opposite. But there’s the same need for each other, even as Kaderin resists to keep focused on her task.

The pairing worked brilliantly, and like A Hunger, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I will absolutely be reading the next, Wicked Deeds on a Winter’s Night, and look forward to spending more time with Bowen, and meeting Mari.
