Meet A New Gothic Heroine

Eudora Fellowes. Strong-willed, independent, and the source of rumours in London society. But her great-aunt’s passing gives her an escape. With no other heirs, the seaside manor of High Hearth is passed to Eudora, who is determined to make the manor a home not just for her, but for her two Irish Wolfhounds, too.

Yes, S.H. Cooper is back with another unforgettable heroine. In The Festering Ones, we met Faith York, a woman on a quest to discover what really happened when her father died many years before. The Knight’s Daughter features Mary McThomas, a young woman who goes on a quest to save her father’s life. And in Inheriting Her Ghosts, Cooper gives us Eudora.

Eudora stands up for herself and her dogs, ensuring no one who comes into contact with her could possibly underestimate her. Don’t go into this expecting a big, strong man to sweep in and save the day. Instead, Eudora’s fate is completely her own. She stands firm even when others urge her to leave, even when it feels like everything is against her.

Not only that, but at its core, Inheriting Her Ghosts isn’t just about a single strong woman. Eudora also shows compassion, to those who deserve it, and part of the book is also about the relationships between women, how our past can influence our present behaviours and way we treat others, sometimes not for the best. The story is tightly focused on Eudora and her experiences, as she uncovers the truth, looking for a way to remain at High Hearth.

It is, after all, her home, and she won’t let anyone take that away from her.
