Book Review: The Influence by Ramsey Campbell

Yes, this novel was originally published back in the late 80s, but it has since been returned to the forefront of news with a Netflix movie and a reprinting from Flame Tree Press. At the time of writing this, I have not yet seen the screen adaptation, so I won’t be able to make any comparisons there. But that’s just fine, because we’re here to talk about the book, anyway.

Campbell is an author still relatively new to me, if you can believe it. In fact, The Wise Friend from this year was my first time reading him (though I had heard his name before). That makes The Influence my second experience with his writing, and another good one.

Book Review: Castaways by Brian Keene

I don’t usually include trigger warnings in reviews, mainly because the stuff I read doesn’t typically require them. Not on purpose, and it’s possible I am missing something in the books I read that others might identify, but for Castaways I do think there are certain scenes one might need to prepare themselves for before diving in.

Book Review: Twisted Books to Leave You Shook

I find it so so so extremely important to explore horror books within all age groups, especially books for the younger readers. Am I bias due to my own horror-infused upbringing? Probably. But, in general, middle-grade horror spins a spooky story filled with usually outrageous creatures and turns it into a lesson in morals. That, my horror-loving friends, makes series like Goosebumps and the soon-to-be-discussed Twisted Books to Leave You Shook perfect for our younger spooky pals. If we’re exploring these books meant for younger readers, then we can easily recommend books to our children, nieces, nephews, the kid that lives down the street, etc.
